Man and Woman Astronauts - Anniversary Card
This mid-century astronaut couple reflects the era's fascination with the space race. Illustrated by Tran J. Mawicke, they originated from the cover of a Space Happy coloring book that featured Cadet Happy from the Tom Corbett, Space Cadet TV and radio show, a popular children's space adventure program from 1950-1955. A copy of this coloring book now resides in the National Air and Space Museum, but there's no need to travel to Washington D.C.—we've reproduced it as a retro kitschy anniversary card!
Tran J. Mawicke (1911-1988), a Chicago native, began his advertising career in 1929, working with clients like Pepsi-Cola and Camel Cigarettes. He illustrated for magazines in the 1930/40s, and for book publishers in the 1950s. His depictions of military life and postwar America captured a transformative era in history.
